Advertising and commercial disclosure

A reader should be able to recognize when money or ownership may influence a page.

Editorial preview. Disclosure standards are adopted; the commercial-relationship inventory and applicable legal review remain outstanding.

Disclose the relationship where it matters

Veterinarians.org has adopted this disclosure policy and is independent of TotalVet. That independence does not mean the publication has no commercial relationships. Its funding, sponsorship, affiliate agreements and relevant product relationships still need to be documented.

Sponsored content

Paid articles and placements should clearly identify the sponsor and their advertising nature before a reader mistakes them for ordinary editorial coverage. A publication-style layout must not hide that relationship. The FTC’s native advertising guidance explains why presentation and labeling both matter; applicability to the operator requires legal review.

Affiliate links and connected products

If the publisher can earn a commission from a link, that relationship should be explained near the relevant recommendation. Coverage of products owned by, funded by or otherwise connected to the publisher should state the connection prominently.

A connection may also matter when an article evaluates a competitor. The evidence for a clinical claim must stand on its own; a disclosure does not turn an unsupported claim into a supported one.

Information still needed

Before launch, the publisher must supply the relevant funding and relationship details and apply consistent article-level labels. See About us for the publication’s identity and scope.
